As one of the fastest growing economies in the world, India is expected to have a 6.4% economic growth in 2023-2024 according to Reserve Bank of India. India is also considered one of the world’s most promising steel industry centers and has become the world’s second largest steel producer in 2018. It reached a total of 124.7 million ton of crude steel in 2022 while keeping a leading role in the global production of DRI and sponge iron. It is estimated that India will invest 20 billion USD in the next three years for its fast-growing steel industry and nonferrous metal sectors.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in October 2022 that his administration had set the target to double the output of crude steel from its current 154 billion tons per year to 300 billion tons per year in the following 9 to 10 years.
